Doctor’s Biography
Dr Kannan is a fellowship trained Orthopedic Surgeon with a sub-specialty interest in Foot and Ankle (F&A) disorders. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and was awarded the distinguished Ministry of Health (Singapore) Scholarship to pursue further training in the field of lower limb reconstructive surgery with special emphasis on Foot and Ankle Reconstruction.
He completed his sub-specialty training in Switzerland and in the Netherlands, sub-specializing in F&A reconstruction and in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) of the foot and ankle where he was involved with the surgical teams treating elite European athletes. He is one of 2 local surgeons who are members of GRECMIP, the society for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) surgery of the Foot and Ankle. Prior to commencing private practice, Dr Kannan held the appointment of Chief, Foot & Ankle Surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital Orthopedic Department.
His clinical expertise is in sports injuries, ligament injuries & tendinopathies, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery for management of cartilage defects, forefoot bunion correction, diabetic foot ulcers, foot & ankle fractures, correction of flatfeet & high arched feet and management of arthritis including total ankle replacement and osteotomies. He has extensive clinical experience in reconstructive F&A surgery, being one of a niche number of F&A sub-specialists in Singapore & the region.
His particular research interest is in cartilage regeneration and management of cartilage defects. He is a member of the American, European and British Foot & Ankle Societies as well as being a member of the International Cartilage Repair Society. He is also an International Teaching Faculty of AO Trauma. He remains an Associate Clinical Lecturer for Orthopedic Surgery at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and is active in teaching medical students, residents and orthopedic surgeons.
