Cancer is a scary disease that can strike anyone, anytime and anywhere. The least one would expect was Sarah Whitney, she was 22 weeks pregnant when she was told that she has breast cancer. She could be enjoying her precious time documenting her baby’s growth inside her like any mums-to-be, but the time was spent on chemotherapy followed by a mastectomy instead.
Is this the end? NO! This brave mum did not give up because of the baby growing inside her. When Sarah gave birth at 36 weeks, she knew she had to breastfeed her baby immediately. It was not an easy path to recovery for Sarah as she also suffers from depression. Sarah has to be on cancer medication for the next decade to keep the illness at bay. Unfortunately, this medication conflicts with her antidepressant drug that has been consuming. It was tiring but it’s her baby and the support of her spouse, family and ‘friends’ that gave her the strength to carry on.
The journey ahead is long and tough but the support from family and friends keep them going. We wish Sarah and her family stay strong and healthy, may they overcome this obstacle soon! Do you know of any inspiring stories out there? Share them with us!
