Week 22 Of Pregnancy – Pregnancy Trademarks

fifth month of pregnancy

What’s happening inside

All of your baby’s senses are fast developing as the fifth month ends. Shine a flashlight over your tummy, and you might feel your baby responding to the bright light, even though its faintly perceived through their fused eyelids. Please be mindful of whatever you’re putting into your mouth these days too. As the saying goes, what mummy eats, baby is tasting too!

As your pregnancy progresses, your body might go through some interesting changes (sometimes hateful) especially your skin color and condition during the second trimester. If you have noticed a dark vertical line across your belly to your navel, that is actually the Linea Nigra. Linea Nigra has always been there but just that it darkens during your pregnancy, some may be darker and visible than other. It is generally more visible on dark-skinned ladies. While it should fade a few months after delivery, it will probably never completely disappear. Another common condiiton affecting the skin is Cloasma – a skin discolouration on parts of the face that may give you a mottled appearance. Again, this will fade a few months after delivery. In the meantime, a little concealer should cover up nicely.

A Matter of Fact

Research shows that pregnant women attract twice as many mosquitoes as non-pregnant women, due to your higher body temperature and faster rate of breathing. So stick on a mosquito patch to ward those pesky bugs off!

Tips for daddy

Look out for baby fairs or good deals when scouting for the big ticket items like a cot, pram and car seat. There are sales all year round, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding a good deal if you look early enough! Do check out various parenting forums and/or magazines for tips and product comparisons if you’re unsure which brands or models to buy.
