What’s happening inside
Beginning this week, your baby is beginning to make those all-important fat deposits that will transform him from a saggy bundle of skin and bones into the chubby cherub of your imagination. In fact, within the next few weeks, baby’s weight will likely be doubled!
Those kicks are going to get really strong and powerful. It may even hurt at times. But that is your baby’s way of connecting with you, to tell you he is growing strong and well.
Maternal Changes
As baby grows, your belly has to grow to keep up, and this rapid stretching of the skin can make your tummy feel itchy and uncomfortable. Apply moisturizer liberally and frequently for temporary relief from the discomfort. Do you feel hungry all the time or a need to eat something even you have just eaten a full meal? It’s perfectly normal! Just stock up your home with a selection of healthier snacks like fruits, vegetables and salad, and nuts.
A Matter of Fact
Did you know that, up till this week, your baby has been practically translucent? If you could take a peek inside, you would be able to see his organs and skeleton through the skin! That’s because his skin is growing faster than fats can develop. But starting this week, as your baby begins to pack on the kilos, he will soon be transparent no more!
This week also signify an important milestone! If your baby is born this week, she would have a chance to pull through with 25 – 35% of survival rate. The percentage continue to increase. At Week 24 & 25, it would mean that baby has about 50 – 70% of survival rate and 90% for baby is she is born on week 26 & 27.
Tips for daddy
It is perfectly normal for you and your wife to be feeling some (or even a lot of) apprehension and nervousness about becoming parents, especially if you are expecting your first child. Arm yourself with knowledge, prepare as much as you can to gain confidence about your new role. Signing up for prenatal classes with your hospital of choice would be an obvious first step in the right direction.
